# How to Use the Infectious Disease

Cost Calculator

**How to Use the Cost Calculator**

**Select disease:**Use the pull-down menu to select cholera or dengue.**Select country:**Type the first 3 to 4 letters of the name of the country you are interested in (not case sensitive). When the list of countries drops down, scroll to highlight and select the correct country.**Review cost estimates:**The cost estimate will appear on the right side of the calculator once you have chosen the country.**Print results:**To print results, click PRINT RESULTS button.**Reset:**To reset the calculator to its original settings, click the RESET button.**Customize:**To view and change cost assumptions, select the CUSTOMIZED calculator mode by clicking CUSTOMIZED OPTIONS.

**How to Use the Customized Cost Calculator**

The CUSTOMIZED calculator mode allows you to change the number of cases for a country and a disease. It also allows you to change the probability assumptions for the types of cases used to calculate disease costs. For example, you can change the probability for severe cases versus mild cases of dengue (DF vs. SDF).

**Change case numbers:**Enter a new number of cases in the CASES box.**Change probability assumptions:**Enter the desired PROBABILITY (as a decimal) in the boxes in the calculator.**Note:**In some cases, altering one probability may change another corresponding probability. For example, the combined probabilities for cholera treatment vs. no treatment must equal 1. Therefore, if the probability of treatment is changed, then the probability of no treatment will change as well to make the combined probabilities equal 1.**Calculate:**After modifying the cases and probabilities in the boxes on the left, click CALCULATE to obtain the revised cost and case estimates. Revised costs will appear on the upper right-hand side of the calculator, and revised case numbers will appear on the lower right-hand side of the calculator.**Print results:**To print results, click PRINT RESULTS button.**Reset:**To reset the calculator to its original settings, click the RESET button.
